Foreign nationals who intend to build a long-term life in Ukraine eventually run into the same realisation: temporary residence, however convenient, is always tied to something else. It depends on an employer, a study contract, a volunteer mission or a family situation that has to be re-proved every year or two. Permanent residence removes that dependency. It is the point at which a foreigner stops being a guest whose status is renewed and becomes a resident whose status simply exists.
